Emission free bulkship

HeidelbergCement and agricultural cooperative Felleskjøpet AGRI, together with shipping company Egil Ulvan Rederi plan to build the world's first zero-emission bulk carrier. The vessel is scheduled for completion and commissioning in 2024. 

The project, which was awarded the Heyerdahl Prize in 2021, has received a lot of publicity for its technical innovation. 

The plan is to ship aggregates products for HeidelbergCement and grain for partner Felleskjøpet from West Norway to East Norway, and vice versa, using hydrogen powered transport.

Brevik CCS

Carbon capture and Storage (CCS) is today our main technical solution to drastically reduce CO2 from cement production.

The very first CCS-plant in the global cement industry, in operation by 2024, is currently under construction by our subsidiary, Norcem, at the Brevik cement plant in Norway.

Slite CCS

HeidelbergCement has announced its intention to develop the world’s first carbon-neutral cement plant in Slite on Gotland.

When the installation is commissioned in 2030 and begins capturing up to 1.8 million tonnes of carbon dioxide annually.
