HeidelbergCement seeks partners for next potential Zero-emission bulk ship project

Last week HeidelbergCement’s subsidiary NorStone announced that they have partnered up with forest owners’ company AT Skog in Norway. Together they are now seeking partners for the next potential emission-free bulk ship project.

The two partners are inviting ship-owners, ship-operators and innovators to an open dialogue on 25 May on how to achieve real emission reductions in a long-term contract of affreightment.

The project aims to follow up the earlier launched “Green Bulk” project, that is run together with Felleskjopet Agri. The goal of that project is to have an emission-free bulkship transporting stone-material and grain along the Norwegian coastline without emitting any carbon-dioxide, and to have it in operation from 2024. Earlier this year, fundings were secured through #Enova.

Lars Erik Marcussen, project manager for maritime transport at HeidelbergCement Northern Europe.

Lars Erik Marcussen, Project Manager Logistics in HeidelbergCement Northern Europe believes that the new project should be of interest in the market.

– We have now joined forces with forestry company AT Skog, and we are interested in finding a solution together with other partners as well. If we are to succeed with vastly reducing our emissions, we need to collaborate across the value chain, and the ongoing “With Orca”-project (the name of the ship) has shown that this is possible.

– Through the Norwegian #GSP (Green Shipping Program) we have found partners that suit both our logistics and cargo. This setup enables us to collaboratively offer a 5-year contract from our side in the end, and we hope that several potential partners will use this opportunity to explore green innovative solutions.
Invitations to the open-dialogue meeting have been sent out to several known actors in the market, but anyone who is interested can take contact.
